Gilda is a large gorilla carrying around a cage with a real person inside. The person is sitting cross-legged inside the cage and will be making comments to visitors as Gilda carries them around.
I won't spoil how the effect works, but if you cannot figure it out and really want to know, e-mail me and I'll show you.
Trivia
Is that a banana in your pocket?
The Wikipedia page for the park had a mention of Gilda (which was something I originally wrote) which was later edited by someone with "offer her a banana and she will release the girl in the cage." This anonymous edit eventually ended up on the official Adventureland page when they redid the site and used content from the Wikipedia entry. This line seems like a joke/vandalism to the page, but in 2009, I was told that one of the character folks actually did use that as a gag -- being locked in the cage and asking guests if they had a banana so the gorilla would let them out. So maybe there is more truth to it than we know. (But, the gorilla will not let them out, even if you bring a banana.)
