About the Food and Drink Info Box

Poppy's Pub (aka Poppy's Popular Pub / Poppy's Olde Place / Poppy's Place) was a full service restaurant and bar on Main Street. It opened in 1974 and closed in XXXX. Today the location is the Doc and Leone's Diner.

An ad in the 8-16-1974 Des Moines Register described it as:

The most unusual gastronomical experience of a lifetime. Done in "Early Unbelievable" (also called "Structured Disorganization"), it's a potpourri of nostalgia, with touches like: stained-glass windows, early model radios and hand-wound victrolas; actual dining room tables and chairs from the 30's; many curios and artifacts (many available for purchase); private dining rooms -- just to mention a few.

The food? There's everything from 10c coffee; Corn on the Cob; Lobster fried in beer batter; to Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches. Obviously no ordinary place. Open daily 10 AM. Poppy's Popular Pub, featuring beer by the pitchers, is open till midnight.
