Poppy's Pub (aka Poppy's Olde Place) was a full service restaurant and bar on Main Street. It opened in 1974 and closed in XXXX.

Today the location is the Iowa Cafe.

  • Feb 21, 1974 - The Altoona Herald (Altoona, Iowa), Thursday, February 21, ... and Poppy's Olde Place, named for Don Poppplestone, interior decorator and architectural designer for Adventureland.
  • Feb 2, 1989 - (Des Moines Register) But even at that, it's a long day for Don Popplestone, entertainment director at the Altoona amusement ...

Donald Popplestone died of pneumonia in 1998 at age 75. He was born in Detroit and moved to Des Moines in 1959. He was an interior designer for Better Homes and Gardens and Adventureland, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
